Part 2

Vertep is a traditional Ukrainian Christmas theatrical performance in which a group of people or puppets reenact scenes of Jesus Christ's birth, as well as humorous secular episodes from folk life. A distinctive feature of Vertep is the inclusion of caroling and "shchedruvannya"—participants go from house to house, singing Christmas songs, greeting the hosts, and wishing them happiness, health, prosperity, peace, and a bountiful harvest.

We invite you to enjoy a Christmas story, listen to Christmas songs, and hear the world-famous Shchedryk, the melody of which inspired the song "Carol of the Bells" by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych. The performance will feature a choir ensemble, as well as instrumental renditions on piano, guitar, and domra by theater actors!
